muru-D is Telstra's hub for incubating ideas, products, and technologies. The name muru-D has a meaningful origin rooted in the Sydney Aboriginal Eora language. The word 'muru' means path, symbolising a journey or direction. The 'D' stands for digital, representing the focus on digital innovation. Together, muru-D signifies a pathway to digital innovation.
We explore new technologies and rapidly prototype solutions, drawing on our expertise in 5G, IoT, connectivity, edge computing, and applied AI. Partnering with industry, experts, and universities, we develop real-world solutions for real-world problems.
Our process includes prototyping, proof-of-concepts, customer trials, and human-centred design workshops. We also support founders driving social technological impact and innovation in AI, VR, AR, drones, satellites, and robotics.

Our labs exist to understand and invest in new technologies. We achieve this with our partners and experts through iterative prototyping, POCs, customer trials, and the Labs Application Testing Environment to achieve market readiness.

We aim to accelerate, support and grow our start-up portfolio – which includes over 80 start-ups across Australia, Asia, and USA. These companies are already creating technology to address global challenges across a range of industries.

Application testing environment
We help customers and technology partners test and validate their apps and software using a fully automated software and radio environment.
Fibre sensing
We’ve turned existing optical fibre runs into continuous passive acoustic sensors, implementing AI and Machine Learning on the sensor data to generate a range of composition statistics.
Agritech
We've invested in the Agritech industry, including through active trials and Commonwealth grant participation with Zetifi and Farmbot.
Autonomous robotics
We test different robotics platforms such as Unitree, investigate how our network can be the conduit to enable autonomous mining and workplace of the future use cases.
Apple Vision Pro
We develop applications using the visionOS ecosystem, such as testing how residential wireless coverage can be enhanced with augmented reality.
Wiliot Bluetooth tracking
In collaboration with a global IoT solution provider specialising in battery-less Bluetooth tagging technology, we are showcasing the most advanced innovations in asset tracking.
