muru-D Sydney is located in the Sydney CBD and we run one program per year kicking off around the end of February. We’ve just finished our fifth cohort and have seen over 50 startups benefit from our Sydney accelerator program. We offer $75k in seed funding, coworking space, Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs), a global network of mentors, investors and alumni and an environment conducive to building successful global businesses and developing resilient founders.

GLOBAL HEAD OF MURU-D, SYDNEY
Julie is Head of Telstra’s startup accelerator, muru-D. She comes to the role with a vast and varied background spanning both startup and corporate environments, working most recently as the Founder & Chief Life Officer of Playful Purpose helping companies integrate meaningful philanthropy programs in their business. She was also an advisor to startups Ideator, and the Gratitude Network. Julie was one of the US leads in launching SheEO Radical Generosity in the US, a global initiative to transform how we support, finance and celebrate female entrepreneurs. Prior to that, Julie was Executive Director at Workday Foundation, and a founding member and Vice President of All Things Fun, Meaningful and Rewarding at Salesforce.com Foundation.

GENERAL COUNSEL AND HEAD OF CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT, SYDNEY
Oonagh is a commercial lawyer with over 20 years experience. She has worked in both law firms and corporates and her career to date has spanned London, Hong Kong, Auckland and Sydney. Looking for her next adventure she joined muru-D in 2016. She now helps our founders navigate their way through the vast and varied legal issues they face on their startup journeys. She’s passionate about helping founders understand the legal landscape and understand the key legal issues they need to be aware of. Oonagh can also help connect our startups back into the Telstra ecosystem.

HEAD OF STORYTELLING, SYDNEY
Melissa’s spent 30+ years crafting brands and telling stories for multinationals in Australia, Singapore and South Korea, as well as her own businesses. Her first startup in 2004 saw her create the first automotive platform in Australia for women consumers. Through this business she experienced the highs and lows of entrepreneurial life with founder breakups, more pivots than a dancer and ultimately securing an investor. She gained national media exposure for her trailblazing initiative and innovative solutions to a widespread problem.

ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE, SYDNEY
Alan mentors startup founders for muru-D’s 2019 Sydney program, as well as in startup programs for BlueChilli, Catalysr, Collider, Startmate and UTS.
A founding investor in Australian tech startup venture funds Pollenizer, Startmate and Blackbird Ventures, Alan is currently raising a new venture fund, M8 Ventures, with Microsoft Reactor’s Emily Rich, focusing on pre-seed and seed investment in early-stage tech startups in Australia and New Zealand.
Alan has been an active angel investor here and in the US, with investments including Bugcrowd, Buzzy, Biteable, Elevio, GeoSnap, HappyCo, HowAboutEat, Macropod, Muru Music, Propeller Aero, TopMe, Tzukuri, Workyard, UpGuard and Upperstory.
Alan’s service agency for startups, The New Agency, was acquired by BlueChilli in 2012. Previously, he was cofounder of HomeScreen Entertainment and Product Director, South Asia for Yahoo!, Inc.

Bec is passionate about helping Founders create awesome success stories. She enjoys the startup hustle and bustle and being at muru-D allows to her to be in the midst of all that. From helping grow an early stage HR Tech startup to scale-up, to building global processes and systems [that exist in corporate Telstra], Bec has worked in various roles from operations and marketing to project managing tech teams. Outside of muru-D, Bec has many passion projects including home decorating, building apps and competing in Oztag.

PROGRAM MANAGER, SYDNEY
Nicola is our program manager for Sydney and has been working with startups for almost 10 years. Originally from Ireland, where she led startup and accelerator engagement for the global technology conference, Web Summit. Before leaving for Australia, landing at Pollenizer, an early stage startup incubator. Here, she made waves to bring startup methods to some of the world’s largest companies.
All before moving across to a corporate role at AGL Energy. There, Nicola helped define their technology ecosystem to develop a pipeline of growth companies for investment. Now, Nicola is running the Sydney program at muru-D, where she is fostering a world-class accelerator to advance ambitious teams with ideas for global impact.

Mick has been building tech companies for twenty years. He loves focus. Build one product, to solve one problem, for one customer, in one geography, with one business model, acquiring customers in one way. Mick is based in San Francisco Bay Area.

Jodie job shares the Personal Assistant role with Tara Heathcote and together they are known as Magic Wand! Jodie divides her weekdays between her Personal Assistant role and being a mother to 3 young boys so there is never a dull moment which is just how she likes it! Jodie has over 10 years’ experience in Executive Assistant and Project Manager roles specialising in multitasking and making things happen and yes she has eyes in the back of her head! Jodie is new to the start-up space and truly admires the determination of the start-ups and is excited to be part of the team to help them grow.
