muru-D Sydney is located in the Sydney CBD and we run one program per year kicking off around the end of February. We’ve just finished our fifth cohort and have seen over 50 startups benefit from our Sydney accelerator program. We offer $75k in seed funding, coworking space, Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIRs), a global network of mentors, investors and alumni and an environment conducive to building successful global businesses and developing resilient founders.

GLOBAL HEAD OF MURU-D, SYDNEY
Julie is Head of Telstra’s startup accelerator, muru-D. She comes to the role with a vast and varied background spanning both startup and corporate environments, working most recently as the Founder & Chief Life Officer of Playful Purpose helping companies integrate meaningful philanthropy programs in their business. She was also an advisor to startups Ideator, and the Gratitude Network. Julie was one of the US leads in launching SheEO Radical Generosity in the US, a global initiative to transform how we support, finance and celebrate female entrepreneurs. Prior to that, Julie was Executive Director at Workday Foundation, and a founding member and Vice President of All Things Fun, Meaningful and Rewarding at Salesforce.com Foundation.

General Counsel/Head of Legal tech/media/data & corporate lawyer for/with top tier law firms, start-ups and large multinational corporations in the technology, data and media sectors across Australia, New Zealand and Asia including: Minter Ellison, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Group; Potentia; oOh!media, Quantium and Singtel, to name a few. As a respected senior counsel, I have advised on a broad range of commercial, intellectual property, corporate, litigious and regulatory matters and offer a proven track record in negotiating and advising boards, investors, CEOs and senior management on complex partnerships, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures.
As a ‘commercial architect’ I plan, design and construct commercial frameworks that minimise risk and bring together disruptive industry partners to drive innovative and commercial solutions that enhance value. Further, having worked with broadcasters, studios, producers, telecommunication providers and private and public investors I can evidence strong relationships with key players in the technology, internet and media industry located worldwide.

PROGRAM MANAGER, SYDNEY
Nicola is our program manager for Sydney and has been working with startups for almost 10 years. Originally from Ireland, where she led startup and accelerator engagement for the global technology conference, Web Summit. Before leaving for Australia, landing at Pollenizer, an early stage startup incubator. Here, she made waves to bring startup methods to some of the world’s largest companies.
All before moving across to a corporate role at AGL Energy. There, Nicola helped define their technology ecosystem to develop a pipeline of growth companies for investment. Now, Nicola is running the Sydney program at muru-D, where she is fostering a world-class accelerator to advance ambitious teams with ideas for global impact.

ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE, SYDNEY
Alan mentors startup founders for muru-D’s 2019 Sydney program, as well as in startup programs for BlueChilli, Catalysr, Collider, Startmate and UTS.
A founding investor in Australian tech startup venture funds Pollenizer, Startmate and Blackbird Ventures, Alan is currently raising a new venture fund, M8 Ventures, with Microsoft Reactor’s Emily Rich, focusing on pre-seed and seed investment in early-stage tech startups in Australia and New Zealand.
Alan has been an active angel investor here and in the US, with investments including Bugcrowd, Buzzy, Biteable, Elevio, GeoSnap, HappyCo, HowAboutEat, Macropod, Muru Music, Propeller Aero, TopMe, Tzukuri, Workyard, UpGuard and Upperstory.
Alan’s service agency for startups, The New Agency, was acquired by BlueChilli in 2012. Previously, he was cofounder of HomeScreen Entertainment and Product Director, South Asia for Yahoo!, Inc.

Natalie mentors startup founders for muru-D’s 2019 Sydney program. She is also a social impact entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in product management and innovation.
Collaborating with companies to meet their customers’ unmet needs while adapting to disruption has been a recurring theme throughout her career. She has designed, developed and grown products across a broad range of industries including digital media, telecommunications, health and financial services.
She loves working with diverse teams that are motivated to build disruptive businesses that meet a market need and make a positive social impact. Her startup Full Time Lives designs and delivers peer-based programs for experienced professionals to explore new possibilities in their lives and careers and make a positive difference to their communities.

ENTREPRENEUR IN RESIDENCE, TECHNOLOGY
Steve is a 2x CTO/Founder of startups in San Francisco and Sydney. He was the 20th member of the Salesforce.com development team in San Francisco. As well as cutting code, he also teaches software development and provides consulting to large enterprise clients. His super-power is explaining and selling technology, based on Sales Engineering experience at Oracle and Salesforce.com.

Mick has been building tech companies for twenty years. He loves focus. Build one product, to solve one problem, for one customer, in one geography, with one business model, acquiring customers in one way. Mick is based in San Francisco Bay Area.

Jodie (AKA Magic Wand!) divides her weekdays between her Personal Assistant role and being a mother to 3 young boys so there is never a dull moment which is just how she likes it! Jodie has over 10 years’ experience in Executive Assistant and Project Manager roles specialising in multitasking and making things happen and yes she has eyes in the back of her head! Jodie is new to the start-up space and truly admires the determination of the start-ups and is excited to be part of the team to help them grow.

COMMUNITY & OPERATIONS, SYDNEY
Having recently moved from the small town of Canberra, Christiaan is excited to be joining muru-D amidst the hustle and bustle of the Sydney startup ecosystem. He strongly believes that startups hold the key to a better society, and is eager to help the muru-D community create awesome success stories.
Christiaan supported several startup programs in Canberra, such as InnovationACT and the ANU’s entrepreneurship discipline. He has also worked for several startups in various roles from operations, to marketing and business development. Prior to joining muru-D, Christiaan was working as a management consultant focused on strategy and communications.
Outside of muru-D, Christiaan is an obsessive soccer player/supporter and cooks far too many desserts. A lover of coffee and chocolate, he’s always eager to meet new people!
