muru-D Singapore Cohort 2: first 30 days

Experiments, Networking and Guidance were major themes of the first month of muru-D Singapore’s cohort 2.  Highlights included:

Week 1:  During week one we introduced the teams to the muru-D program, living in Singapore (most teams are from abroad) and then got down to business with classes like “Focus or Fail” by Craig Dixon (Entrepreneur-in-Residence Singapore) and introductions to start-up tools like the “Goal Grid” by Ben Sand (Entrepreneur-in-Residence Sydney).

Mentor Night:  Over 30 muru-D mentors joined us to ensure an incredibly productive night that kicked off with our startups pitching and follow-up Q+A. We then moved on to a “speed-dating” session where each mentor was able to have face-to-face time with each startup.  A number of the teams have already built relationships with these mentors and will be working towards building an official board of advisors in the coming weeks/months.

Masterclass by IDEO: A huge impression was made on our startups through as IDEO taught concepts around “Human Centered Design”.  Specific tools and thinking processes were delivered to ensure our startups can design their products in a way that will be easily picked up by their customers.

Escape to Palau Ubin:  The teams spent the weekend on Palau Ubin island and Changi Village getting to know each other and working through exercises like “Problem Solving Switcheroo” where startup teams were paired off and tasked with offering solutions to another team’s most pressing challenges.  Palau Ubin was a great environment to foster out of the box thinking whilst building connections between the teams.

Super Open House:  Headlined by Lai Chang Wen, CEO of local startup success Ninja Van, muru-D hosted our first SOH at Bash near Block 71 in Singapore.  Each startup pitched to the crowd followed by Q+A and then a great presentation by Chang Wen about his startup founder journey.

It’s only been one month, but our startups have already come so far!
