muru-D Alumni Take Out First Prize

Congratulation to the team from Flobox – Rockson, Steve and Arthur, who took out first prize in StartCon’s Hackathon in Sydney last weekend.

StartCon is Australia’s largest startup and growth conference that brings together Australian and international entrepreneurs and speakers, workshops, pitch events and networking to inspire, engage and educate founders and the entire startup ecosystem.

muru-D partnered with the conference and was well represented at many of the events by our alumni, mentors and muru-D team who pitched, hacked and hung out with fellow founders and ecosystem influencers.

One of the premier events was the Hackathon. Just under 100 eager beavers formed 23 teams to come up with a creative add-on for Freelancer.com – sponsors of the event.

In just over 24 hours the team from Flobox came up with their idea and built a working prototype. Their idea was pretty cool and solves the problem of cost effectively managing “ad fatigue”- where once an image in an ad has been seen several times, it is no longer noticed. How it works is it uses machine learning to evaluate the specific elements in an image of an ad that performs well. This information is then used to form a creative brief on freelancer.com for designers to create high performing ad by using images.

Steve, Flobox co-founder, said “Being part of the muru-D accelerator gave us an unfair advantage. We’ve learned how to solve problems quickly as a team and what to focus on to get the most traction”.

The team were over the moon to take out first place as the quality of final pitches was awesome, and this was their first Hackathon! They walked away with some cool prizes including watches, a hot lap in a supercar and $5k in cash. Nice.

The team at Flobox were part of Sydney’s fourth program, SYD4. Their business uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help Facebook advertisers get more bang for their buck.
