What we look for

First and foremost, we are looking for ambitious, driven and passionate teams that are working on IoT solutions to global problems.

We’re looking for companies that aren’t just connecting devices to the internet but have a fundamental reason why. We get particularly excited when the idea is an IoT plus: for example industry-focused such as IoT + retail, IoT + agriculture, IoT + insurance, IoT + security, IoT + health, etc. The plus could also mean technology, as in IoT + Machine Learning. We have a bias towards companies that are bringing hardware and software together in new and meaningful ways to solve global problems. That being said, we will also consider pure software companies that aim to add value to the IoT ecosystem.

What we offer

Purpose built environment

You will be working out of Telstra's Gurrowa Lab located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, and be uniquely placed to access:

  • Australia's first Open IoT Lab

    • Direct connections into Telstra’s model network

    • PCB prototyping capabilities (PCB mill, soldering stations, etc.)

  • Experts from Telstra’s Chief Technology Office, which include the best tech and commercial minds in IoT, Big data, security, drones, VR/AR and more.

  • A fully-equipped mechanical workshop

  • A co-located Data Centre for local hosting and software prototyping

You will be joining a community of 70+ muru-D companies that have gone through our programs in Sydney and Singapore, as well as our partner programs in Perth and Brisbane.

Our entrepreneur in residence will be your head coach. You will also have access to our Entrepreneurs In Residence (EIRs) based out of Sydney, Singapore and Perth, as well as the broader muru-D Team, which includes our portfolio Manager who provides post-program support to our alumni companies, and is based out of Silicon Valley.

The program is six months in duration, during which we expect you to be working full time on building your company. We tailor the program to best fit your needs by providing relevant and timely content to both set you up for and accelerate your journey to success. In addition to the ongoing guidance, we’ll bring in experts (IP, marketing, business development, technology, capital raising, etc.) and prioritise hands on workshops as well as one-on-one coaching over general classes. We aim to challenge you as a founder to think globally (international trip) and think differently (personal development). We also aim to connect you back into Telstra when relevant.

We’re currently building out a strong network of mentors, investors, IoT experts, and entrepreneurs here in Melbourne and across the world. These include members of the existing muru-D network as well as many more we’re recruiting especially for the Melbourne program for their passion and experience in IoT.

muru-D is offering $75K on a SAFE (Simple Agreement For Future Equity) convertible note with 50% discount and no cap during the 2 year term.
